Company History
Investing with the spirit of an engineer
Sonn Group is a real estate investment firm that is deeply rooted in construction engineering and project development. Its affiliated construction engineering company in China completes two million square meters of construction work per year, and its affiliated development entities in both China and New Zealand have built over 11,000 units of residential housing to date and managed over 1,200 commercial tenants.
Sonn Group has diverse development and construction expertise across residential units, office buildings, shopping malls, high-tech laboratories, and universities. Over the past 25 years, Sonn Group and its affiliates have laid footprint across multiple cities in China, and have spent over 10 years accruing local credibility and reputation as a quality developer in New Zealand.
We believe the engineer spirit is to turn the foul and rotten into the rare and ethereal. Over the years, we have acquired numerous distressed development projects with the conviction to re-imagine and re-invent. We have been able to take over suspended building projects in extremely difficult sites and turn them into beautiful masterpieces that brighten up the surrounding neighborhood. As a result, the spirit to re-build and revitalize is at the core of our investment strategy.
We value collaboration and believe in win-win partnerships. Since 1992, we have co-invested and worked with some of the most reputable names in the real estate industry in Asia Pacific, including Gaw Capital, Angelo Gordon, Sun Hung Kai Properties, New World Development, Lai Sun Development, Goldlion Holdings, just to name a few. In New Zealand, our team approach has won us many lasting partnerships with award-winning architects, local councils and prominent local banks.

Investment
Professionals in our investment team come from private equity, investment banking, deal advisory, tax structuring, and portfolio management. The team is located across Hong Kong and New Zealand, streamlining investment management with local development operations. Our model allows an unmatched closeness to our assets and deep local knowledge to inform investment decision-making, where above-market opportunities are identified, examined and captured.
Development
Our founders have led teams of over 150 professionals to complete numerous large-scale developments including high-rise apartments, office buildings and shopping malls. The integrated development platform in China consists of quantity surveying, design management, construction management, financial controlling, property management and marketing. The same expertise is being home-grown in New Zealand, through strategic partnerships among specialized consultants in engineering, town planning, architecture, quantity surveying and project marketing.
Construction
Sonn Group’s founders are highly qualified and experienced engineers who have continuously fueled the business with a deep passion for the built environment. The construction platform in China continues to provide state-of-the-art construction services to some of the biggest developers in Asia Pacific. The team of over 5,000 professionals and workers can be seen nation-wide erecting skyscrapers, high-tech centres and educational institutions.
